Feeling a Chill?

House a little chilly these days? Constantly feeling the need to bump up the thermostat?

WPCiA has arranged a special half-price deal for residents seeking Home Energy Squad visits: While WPCiA funds remain, we're offering Home Energy Squad visits for $35 instead of the usual $70. This program is in conjunction with our home fix-up loan partners at the Center for Energy and Environment, a Minneapolis nonprofit organization. These "Home Energy Squad Enhanced" visits include a team visit to your home to evaluate your energy-savings opportunities and to install a host of energy-efficient materials of your choice, such as:

  • door weather stripping
  • water heater blanket
  • programmable thermostat
  • compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • high-efficiency showerheads
  • faucet aerators

The team will also perform a blower-door test to measure your home for air leaks, complete an insulation inspection of your attic and walls using an infrared camera, safety check your home's heating system and water heater, and help you with next steps. And, if your home needs insulation or air sealing, the crew will provide a quote for recommended work and connect you to a qualified contractor who will honor the quote. (WPCiA home fix-up loans are currently available, first come, first served, at 2 percent interest.)

To schedule your visit, call (612) 335-5874.

The City of Minneapolis also offers these home energy squad visits FREE to certain income-qualified households. For example, a single-person household where income is less than $35,310, a two-person household with income of less than $47,790, and so on, would qualify for a no-cost visit. Call (612) 335-5874 to confirm eligibility.

Volunteers Wanted: Help Shape Our Neighborhood Festival

Plans are in the works for Windyfest 2016, and we need your help now.

The Windyfest Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month until the June event, so help us shape this annual fun- and fund-raising festival for our neighborhood.

Volunteers meet at 7 p.m. at the Windom Park Recreation Center, 2251 Hayes St. NE (accessible location). We need all sorts of helpers - whether you want to volunteer on the day of the event or whether you want to build your marketing and outreach skills now, plan games, pin down food menus and vendors, work with donors, or other needed tasks. We'll find a slot for you! Contact WPCiA at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or (612) 788-2192 or just show up for the meetings. You'll be helping out a good cause!

Neighborhood Meeting Jan. 19

Join us Tuesday, Jan. 19, for the first Windom Park neighborhood meeting of 2016.

We have a special agenda set for this meeting, and we encourage residents of the neighborhood and beyond to join us for an interesting and educational conversation. We have invited representatives from the Islamic Cultural Community Center here in northeast Minneapolis to talk with us about myths and misunderstandings, fact vs. fiction, related to the Muslim community here in Minneapolis as we work to combat "Islamophobia." After a presentation, we'll have time for questions from the audience.

Also on the agenda: We'll be hearing a request from La Colonia Restaurant, 2205 Central Ave. NE here in the Windom Park neighborhood, for a liquor license expansion. WPCiA will vote on whether to support or not support this request, so please come and vote.

We've also asked City Council Member Kevin Reich for a Ward 1 update.

Come to the meeting to hear what our committees are working on for 2016, how you can get involved in setting the course of the neighborhood, and hear other community updates. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Windom Park Recreation Center, 2251 Hayes St. NE, Minneapolis. All are welcome to attend. This is an accessible location; call one week in advance to request other accommodations. Free child-care activities provided by park staff during the meeting (details below).
